Hat Making Workshops

Hello, everyone my name is Kay; I have been making hats and teaching hat making more than twenty years. I am planning sixteen, two-day hat-making workshops in various states, the first workshop is scheduled for Memphis Tennessee. All others will be posted later.

Most of the workshops will consist of covering and frame making, but there will be one hat blocking class in the Los Angeles area. The registration fee is $350.00 for both days including supplies. Participants also have the option of attending one day at any workshop for a fee of $175.00 with supplies, or $125.00 without. Those attending two days have the option of paying in one, two, or three payments.

The first day will consists of covering the outer portion of buckram frames, lining, embellishing, and finishing them by adding grosgrain ribbon. Those paying for supplies will receive (1) pill box, (2) round crown, (3) two-piece (crown and brim), lining, and grosgrain for each hat.

The second day consist of making your own hat shapes by using wooden hat blocks and other materials, which includes 2-3 yards of buckram, millinery wire, joiners, crinoline, and use of all tools necessary to create the hat frames.

Those attending will have access to more than 35 wooden hat blocks, and are expected to first create three of the basic hat shapes of their choice. They may also purchase, or bring additional supplies to create as many other styles as time permits.

Please register as soon as possible because all workshops are limited to ten participants and are scheduled for 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The registration fee may be paid later.

Those attending the California workshops have the option of enrolling for a third day for an additional $125.00, but most go to that location where the workshop is being held. Those attending blocking workshops must supply their own materials, and are paying for use of blocks and instructions. Students from prior workshops may attend one day of frame making or blocking in Los Angeles for $125.00, but must work on their own. New attendees will have priority on usage of blocks and materials.
